WATS 3.0 – With faster drilldown – fewer clicks!

WATS – Virinco’s off-the-shelf Test Data Management software which easily integrates with National Instruments’ TestStand and other test applications – has now been made even better, with new design, functionality and process improvements.

In a world with increasing global competition, survival means constant improvement in production to hold your place among competitors. WATS users already appreciate the product’s ability to automate test data management and make yield, cpk, general SPC and test and production data easily accessible through your web browser.

WATS release 3.0 adds a number of innovations that make test data management even smoother – and give you the control and overview you need to add value in your operations

New WATS Dashboard Design – more intuitive, fewer clicks

The WATS 3 Dashboard has a new design that lets you access the information you need with fewer clicks. It also makes possible a tighter link between reports – which increases drill down ease and functionality.

The Dashboard (earlier called the Control Panel) makes use of an improved design with a right click menu that allows you to open reports in a new window and complete with filter and selected values.

New reports -- OEE, Total process yield – and new functionality

New reports and functionality improvements support the power of the Dashboard. New reports include Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), for analyzing the utilization effectiveness of your test stations, and Total Process yield. New functionality improvements include Test Step yield and analysis, and Product & Test Yield. WATS 3 also lets you create a failure code with customer descriptions where you can tag the code with failure type. A range of new filter options for Unit Under Test (UUT) Reports, Serial Number History, Test Step yield & analysis, Product & Test yield, and Product by Revision yield are also available.

“One of the new report possibilities, an analysis of OEE, makes it easier for our customers to plan production ramp ups, as well as more effectively utilize their existing test equipment,” says Virinco Product Manager Tom Andres Lomsdalen.

System manager

The WATS Dashboard module now includes a Systems Manager that has a tree view displaying all Test Stations and Local Servers connected to WATS.

“In the System Manager, customers now get a total overview of all sites and test stations, as well as an indication of whether they are offline or online, their operational status, and also downtime, among other indications,” states Virinco Technical Manager Richard Pettersen. “This means that with the new WATS 3 it’s easier to handle and maintain a large number of test machines and servers.”

Upgraded Captain’s View

The Captain’s View has been upgraded to match the WATS 3 database structure, including a repair report window at the “WATS UP” start-up page with added drilldown functionality. An updated database structure allows better data retrieval performance and a new structure decreases overall database size.

Transfer method enhancements that are now part of WATS 3 let you transfer new repair reports, improve traceability and give improved performance.

Reactions on WATS 3.0

“What we’re after is the ease of drilling down in the data – getting the most relevant info using the fewest possible clicks,” says Tom Andres.

“WATS 3 introduces much exciting news that we believe our customers will like,” says Tom Andres. “We’ve already gotten positive feedback from our pilot customers and others who’ve had a presentation of the new WATS 3 capabilities. Some of these include a user interface on the WATS Dashboard that provides simpler drill down functionality, an overview of all test machines that are connected to WATS, an Overall Equipment Effectiveness analysis and our new Product Rules & State module.”

“We’ve received a range of concrete input on what works well on WATS today, what we can do even better and which direction we should go for the future. This input will help us as we continue to develop WATS as the most powerful test data tool for monitoring products, production and quality,” he adds.
